The exceptional comfort of Stimulite® comes from its ability to contour to body shape and provide ventilation. Stimulite honeycomb’s ability to contour to the body is a result of its cellular matrix. Elongated hexagons form a pattern of alternating single- and double-walled cells. Each cell has eight interior and exterior radii. This cellular geometry makes Stimulite honeycomb anisotropic, having three different degrees of resistance or "flex" in its length ("L" direction), width ("W" direction) and surface height ("T" direction). This enables it to perfectly contour to body shape. When compressed, the cells radiate outwards to surround and support the anatomy, "self-adjusting" to applied pressure.
Each cell of Stimulite honeycomb is perforated to allow air to flow both vertically and horizontally, keeping the body temperature from rising and preventing the heat build-up associated with sitting for long durations. The footprint of the cells' edges stimulates blood flow, enhancing circulation and preventing the numbness that can occur during long term sitting. Because the cellular matrix is more than 90% open space and there's less material and more air in contact with the body, Stimulite honeycomb offers important wellness benefits not found in traditional seating materials.
Lightweight Stimulite® honeycomb gives airlines an economic advantage. The alternating thick and thin cellular walls of Stimulite honeycomb allow the technology to be both strong and lightweight. On average, the matrix is more than 90% open space. The result is an optimization of the strength-to-weight ratio that gives Stimulite seat cushions the capability to be:
- Thinner than traditional materials for increased living space in the cabin

In addition, the thermoplastic urethane (TPU) material used to fabricate Stimulite cushions has excellent hydrolytic stability. The honeycomb cushions don’t absorb moisture over time as do most cushions made from traditional materials, adding to aircraft weight.

Sustainability and Cost of Ownership
Stimulite® cushions have a reduced environmental impact when compared to traditional cushions.
They are more durable than traditional cushions made from foam and last longer.
They are washable; so if a passenger has a spill, the cushion can be washed and returned to service rather than removed and sent to landfill, which is common practice with traditional cushions. The ability to wash the cushions yields significant cost savings for airlines, minimizing the need for spares.
At the end of life, Stimulite cushions are completely recyclable.
